Welcome to Shoot ‘N Star Ranch!
We are
located approximately 3 miles East of Burton, Texas at 6602 FM 390
Road West in the heart of the Texas Bluebonnet County.
Our ranch
has become a labor of love from our original intent to find a place
in the country that we could eventually retire to. The
way we got into the Longhorn cattle business was due to having a
neighbor in Montgomery, Texas who had a weekend ranch that we were
invited to on occasions. Craig Wilson had been raising Longhorns for
about ten years and we were amazed at how calm and curious they
were. We had been around our Grandfathers and Uncle’s cattle growing
up during the summers and holidays but had never really been
interested in having anything that "ate" while we slept. We
could also remember why our relatives never could visit due to the
fact that they had to "feed" the cows and could not stay overnight.
It took us
over a year to find our ranch in Washington County, Texas. It
seemed like we looked at hundreds of ranches and small acreage
spreads that either were too expensive or
did not have the potential
that we were looking for. What we finally found was made in
heaven for our family. The history of our ranch is that it was part
of the original Moses and Stephen F. Austin land grant dating to the
early 1820’s. Early German immigrants
settled the land that is located on the La Bahia Road that was
established by the Spanish for a commerce route between Nacogdoches
and Goliad, Texas. La Bahia is Spanish for "bay road". We have barns
and milk sheds on the ranch that date back to the 1850’s that have
wooden pegs that hold the hand hewn foundation boards together.
After
obtaining the ranch we set about repairing fences and the 1920’s
house that my wife convinced me was not a tear down!
Our
first Longhorns arrived in July of 2004 from our friend, Craig
Wilson. We obtained nine Longhorns from Craig that originated from the
Ross Perot herd outside of Dallas, Texas. At this point we were
pleased to have pasture ornaments that became icing on the cake for
our new ranch.
As we
started meeting our neighbors and other locals around the Brenham
area, who asked about our Longhorns, we got a lot of advice and
information concerning other Longhorn breeders. We started looking
at what we were going to do about breeding our six Longhorn cows. After hearing about a well known industry breeder located in
Chappell Hill, Texas, we made contact with Joe Assad inquiring about
either renting or buying a bull for our herd. Joe was a
fountain of knowledge when it came to Longhorns. Joe met us one
morning at Bob Dube’s ranch where he works Joe’s show cattle.
Here
is where we first met our Herd Sire, John 14:6. John 14:6 was a one
year old Jr. Bull who had been on the show circuit for about six
months and finished first in his class a number of times and was
named Jr. Reserve Champion Bull at one show. We went into
partnership with Joe Assad and decided to keep John 14:6 on the show
circuit until the breeding season. The first show that we attended
was the San Antonio Show, and John 14:6 won his class and then came
in Jr. Reserve Champion Bull. The last show we entered John 14:6 in
was the Houston Livestock Show in which he came in third in his
class in this prestigious show. We are expecting our first calves
out of John in early ’06.

We have also
added a few Butler Longhorn cows from the Limb Cattle Company herd
that have Coach and Patriot in their bloodlines. We are excited about
developing our herd further.
Please feel free to contact
us or come by our ranch anytime.

May God
Bless You,
David & Kathy Adams
